Центральный банк Норвегии выбрал лицевую сторону авторства студии The Metric System и оборотную сторону авторства Sn?hetta Design. Теперь Центробанк Норвегии возьмёт дизайн победителя за основу для готовящегося обновления банкнот норвежской кроны. Его планируют закончить к 2017 году. На работы студии добавят дополнительные защитные знаки и, возможно, переработают их внешний вид. Конкурсные концепты банкнот номиналом 50, 200, 500 и 1000 крон можно посмотреть на сайте Norges Bank.

Конкурс с темой «Океан» начали проводить весной 2014 года. На него подали заявки около 70 дизайнеров и студий. В финальный отбор вышли концепты студий The Metric System, Sn?hetta Design и дизайнера Энцо Фингера.

Motifs for the new banknote series

Norges Bank has now decided on the motifs to be used as the basis for further work on the new banknote series.

In spring 2014, a competition was held for the design of motifs for the new banknote series. The purpose of the competition was to arrive at a proposal that can be the artistic basis of the new banknote series and communicate the theme "The Sea" in an appropriate manner.

Eight participants were selected by a group of experts to take part in the final round of the competition. The jury has comprised five external professionals and one member from the Bank. They have concluded that two proposals stand out: Ripple Effects by Enzo Finger, and Norwegian Living Space by The Metric System and Terje T?nnessen. The jury has selected Enzo Finger's proposal as the winner of the competition and is of the opinion that this proposal communicates the theme in a surprising way with considerable artistic flair.

Norges Bank has decided that a combination of two proposals submitted will go on for further work. The obverse sides of the notes will be developed on the basis of the proposal from The Metric System, Norwegian Living Space. The basis of the reverse sides will be the pixel motifs submitted by Sn?hetta Design, Beauty of Boundaries.



The obverses from The Metric System are very well suited to the incorporation of necessary security elements. The expression is open, light and typically Nordic. Using the pixel motifs from Sn?hetta Design as the reverse will give the notes both a traditional and a modern expression.

Norges Bank is now working further on motifs and designs to enable security elements intended for the public and machine-readable security elements to be designed and incorporated into the notes. For that reason, the finished notes may differ somewhat from the basis shown above. The first of the new notes will be issued in 2017 at the earliest.

Norges Bank is exhibiting the competition proposals in Grafill's premises in Oslo, Rosenkrantz gate 21, from 7 to 26 October. The title of the exhibition is "Norway's New Banknote Series: The Sea".

В последние годы Национальный банк Норвегии пришел к выводу, что дизайн существующих ныне денежных купюр сильно устарел, а потому неплохо было бы взяться за разработку нового внешнего вида норвежских крон. А потому это финансовое учреждение объявило открытый конкурс среди дизайнерских студий на создание уникального видения того, какими будут деньги страны в скором будущем.


Члены жюри выдвинули следующие условия по тематике будущих купюр:
50 крон — море, которое объединяет нас;
100 крон — море, с помощью которого мы можем общаться с миром;
200 крон — море, которое дает нам пищу;
500 крон — море, которое дает нам благосостояние;
1000 крон — море, которое уносит нас вперед, в будущее.

Среди вошедших в короткий список номинантов на победу в этом конкурсе восьми претендентов на днях был определен один коллектив, которому будет поручено разработать дизайн норвежской кроны образца 2017 года. Членов жюри подкупил предложенный студией The Metric System вариант с размещением на обратной стороне купюр авангардных кубических рисунков, в которых, впрочем, узнаются очертания определенных предметов.

На основе этой концепции и будут созданы норвежские деньги будущего. Правда, перед 2017 годом данная идея еще будет сильно изменена. Но пиксельная составляющая, как ожидается, останется.

Norges Bank introduces new 100- and 200-krone banknotes

The first two denominations in Norway's new banknote series will be put into circulation 30 May 2017.

"This is an important milestone in the work to issue new banknotes. The notes being introduced today are the product of highly advanced graphic design that will function as a secure and effective means of payment for many years to come," Governor ?ystein Olsen said.
Enhanced security

The public should familiarise themselves with the security features on the new banknotes.

"Security and confidence in cash as a means of payment are the main reasons why we are now launching new banknotes. The general public needs to be confident that a 100-krone note is actually worth its face value. At the same time, the authenticity of the banknotes must be easy to verify," Trond Eklund, the project manager for the new banknote series, said.

The general public should note two new security features. In the lower-left corner of the front side of the new notes there is a ring. When you tilt the banknote in different directions, the ring appears to float and you can see a play of colours. When you tilt the note back and forth, the chain on the right-hand side of the banknote appears to move.

As with previous series, watermarks and security threads are also featured in the new banknote series.
Old banknotes will be withdrawn from circulation

The old 100-krone and 200-krone banknotes will circulate in parallel with the new banknotes for a period and will remain legal tender until 30 May 2018. After this period, Norges Bank is obliged to exchange these notes for at least ten more years.

"We encourage the general public to either spend their old banknotes or deposit them in a bank account well ahead of 30 May 2018," Mr Eklund said.
Motifs inspired by the sea

The motifs on all of the new banknote series denominations show the importance of the sea for the prosperity and welfare of the people of Norway. The primary motif on the front side of the 100-krone banknote is a Viking ship, while on the 200-krone note, a cod is portrayed facing left. On the back sides, abstract representations of a cargo ship (100-krone note) and a fishing boat (200-krone note) can be seen on the horizon.

The banknotes were designed by Norges Bank's banknote designers Arild Yttri and Morten Johansen. The designs on the front sides of the banknotes are based on the proposal from Metric Design and Terje T?nnessen. The proposals for the back of the notes were submitted by Sn?hetta Design. The primary motifs were drawn by the artist Sverre Morken. The Atlantic puffin watermark motif is based on a photo taken by photographer Tom Schandy.

The new 100-krone and 200-krone banknotes were printed by Oberthur Fiduciare in France.
Launch in Lofoten

The official launch of the new banknotes will take place in Svolv?r on 30 May 2017 at 2.00 p.m. From that time, the new 100- and 200-krone banknotes will be made available to banks at Norges Bank's central bank depots in Troms?, Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger and Oslo.

"There are very few places that reflect the primary motifs of the 100-krone and 200-krone bank notes better than Lofoten. Abundant cod from the Lofoten fisheries has sustained people in Norway and abroad for centuries, and Lofoten has a history as a seat of power in the Viking Age. We are therefore delighted that the launch of the new banknotes will be marked in Lofoten," Governor Olsen said.

The 50-krone and 500-krone banknotes in the new banknote series will be issued in autumn 2018, while the 1000-krone banknote will be issued in 2019.
